(11)down portamento

古箏初級指法 Guzheng for Beginners
 (11) The down portamento
_______________________________________________________________________________

Down portamento is the exact opposite to Up portamento. Your left hand has to press down ahead of time before your right hand plucks the string. After plucking, release your left hand. 1. For example: ↘6 = i 6. i is achieved by pressing down “6” by your left hand in advance. It takes the first half beat. 6 is the second half beat. Another example: ↘3 5 = 535. The first “5” is done by pressing down your left hand ahead of time. It
takes 1⁄4 beat.

2. Wait until your left hand has completely released before plucking the next string. Similar to Up portamento, “3” and “6” require more strength to press down.

Note: This is a syncopation. It requires more strength.

Note : These two Da Cuos require your left hand to press down the strings. You only have to press down the string that your index finger plucks

-----------------------------------------------

Note:The second “5” does not require press down the string. Therefore, after plucking the first “5”,
release your left hand he same time when you pluck the second “5”.

Note:The two “3” requires pressing  down the same string. After pressing the first “3”, do not
completely release your left hand. Only release half to approximately “4”. Press the string down again after your pluck the second “3”.

Note:Consecutive Hua Yin - after the press down the string at the first “5”, do not release your left
hand. Pluck the second “5” and then release your left hand.
